Dead UniUyo graduate: Police dancing on our son’s grave – Family cries to IGP, PSC

The family of late Kubiat Isaac, a fresh graduate of the University of Uyo who died in police detention in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital has vowed to petition the Force headquarters, as well as the Police Service Commission.

DAILY POST reports that late Isaac, an Architecture graduate awaiting his NYSC call up letter was last week arrested at Eni stores in Uyo by the police Operatives.

He was alleged to have been tortured to death by the officers.

But the Public Relations Officer, SP Odiko Macdon, bwho issued a statement thereafter said the Commissioner had ordered the arrest of the ASP who led the arrest and an autopsy of his corpse to ascertain the true cause of the death.

Macdon further said the deceased was a suspected cultist and armed robber who has been evading arrest, adding that he was actually sick when arrested and died at the police clinic.

Irked by the PPRO’s press release, the family of Late Isaac in a statement through its counsel, Inibehe Effiong (Esq) entitled “Akwa Ibom PPRO is dancing on the corpse of Kubiat Isaac”, described the PPRO’s claims as preposterous and annoying.

Effiong, who explained that the deceased’s aged parents have remained inconsolable, wondered why the police spokesperson would cover the truth in such a manner, stressing that the deceased was never under investigation for alleged armed robbery or cultism or any criminal case.

He said, “It is astonishingly provocative that the PPRO asserted falsely, without any basis, that the deceased was evading police arrest.

“The aged parents of Kubiat are crying and weeping endlessly over the murder of their only son who just graduated from the University of Uyo where he studied Architecture.

“To be specific, MacDon’s allusion to cultism, armed robbery and evasion of arrest are nothing but pure fiction. He should tell the public what he hopes to achieve by concocting this fictional narrative.

“Kubiat was not sick and had no pre-existing medical condition prior to his arrest on Sunday, the 29th day of August, 2021. The claim by the PPRO that Kubiat complained about ill-health while he was at B Division, Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo is uncanny and preposterous.

“This is a very irresponsible behaviour by SP MacDon who knows or ought to know that lying against the dead is evil, vicious and against African culture. We are considering filing a petition at the Police Headquarters in Abuja and the Police Service Commission against SP MacDon.”
