No fewer than one hundred and fifty-one (151) intending pilgrims from Oyo State on Wednesday protested against what they termed as the exclusion of their names.
DAILY POST gathered that the intending pilgrims are to join their counterparts in Saudi Arabia for this year’s Hajj exercise.
While expressing their grievances the intending pilgrims explained that 151 names which were on the first batch for the forthcoming Hajj exercise in Saudi Arabia were removed and placed on awaiting list.
The protesting pilgrims added that the development was unacceptable.
The spokesman for the Hajj hopefuls, Mr. Gafar Adebayo described the removal of the names as unfortunate and urged the state government to come to their aid.
Adebayo said, “We want you to quickly come to our aid on this matter as time is far spent and so that our hope won’t be dashed on this journey.”
The state governor, Seyi Makinde while reacting said his administration will smoothen Hajj operations.
Makinde who addressed the intending pilgrims said the delay in airlifting the intending pilgrims was a result of the quota given to the state by the National Hajj Commission.
He added that information reaching him has it that the National Hajj Commission has promised to reinstate the initial 150 slots it suspended for the state.
Makinde said, “I got information from one of my aides a few minutes back that the Hajj Commission is trying to reinstate the 150 for us. The mistake that happened was that no one should have been removed from the 629 included in the first batch.
“But for whatever that must have happened, I want you to hold me responsible. You gave me this job to look after everybody.
“Let us put our hope in God. Of course, we will go and try to solve this problem and if there is that reinstatement, all of you will go.”
