Grammy award-winning Nigerian singers Ayodeji Balogun, aka Wizkid, and Temilade Openiyi, aka Tems, have been honoured as the first African recipients of the iHeartRadio Titanium Award.
The Titanium Award is given to artistes whose songs grossed 1 billion spins across iHeartRadio stations in America.
Wizkid and Tems received the accolade after their hit song ‘Essence’ grossed 1 billion spins across iHeartRadio stations.
Tems’ manager, Muyiwa Awoniyi, shared a video clip of the award via his Instastory recently.
Tooxclusive recalls that the song, which was originally housed in Wizkid’s fourth studio album, ‘Made In Lagos’, became popular on American mainstream radio after a remix version was released with Canadian singer Justin Bieber in 2021.
