Gunmen Abduct Woman, Teenager in Fresh Midnight Attack on Kwara Community

Suspected terrorists struck again in Kwara State on Sunday night, abducting a woman and a teenage girl during a raid on Maganiko Ndanangi, a community under the Lafiagi Emirate in Edu Local Government Area.

According to residents, the heavily armed attackers stormed the area around midnight, firing several gunshots into the air to instill fear before whisking away their victims.

“They came around 12 midnight, shooting everywhere. People ran into the bush. They kidnapped two people—a married woman called Aisha, popularly known as Gogo, and a 16-year-old girl named Amina. They took them away to an unknown location,” one resident told SaharaReporters on condition of anonymity.

The attack comes amid growing tension in Lafiagi following accusations that the Emir, Alhaji Mohammed Kudu Kawu, has been using palace-backed security operatives and political thugs to intimidate youths planning to protest rising insecurity in the region.

Local youths had mobilised for a demonstration on Monday to demand urgent intervention from state and federal authorities over persistent terrorist and bandit attacks in Edu, Patigi, and Lafiagi communities. However, residents alleged that since word of the planned protest spread, the Emir’s allies have been harassing and threatening would-be protesters.

Earlier this month, SaharaReporters also revealed that the monarch threatened journalists and media practitioners, warning them against reporting on escalating terrorist activities. A palace source claimed the Emir told journalists he was acting on the instructions of Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
