Protesters Besiege NASS, Demand #Saraki’s Resignation And The Return Of 36 SUVs

Scores of protesting youth under the aegis of Occupy National Assembly, today (Tuesday), besieged the premises of the federal parliament and demanded the immediate resignation of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

This is even as the youth, made up of various Civil Society Organisations and students, demanded that the 36 senators, who had so far collected the sports utility vehicles it bought for N35.1m each, return them immediately.

The Punch gathered that the youth also requested that the federal lawmakers should immediately revisit the grey areas identified in the 2016 budget by President Muhammadu Buhari.



Even though security men barred the protesters from entering the premises of the national assembly, the youth forced the main gate closed thereby preventing staff, lawmakers and visitors from either entering or leaving the premises.

Speaking to reporters, the coordinator of the protest, Retson Tedheke of Citizens United for Peace and Stability, said that one of the demands of the group “is that the senate return the sports utility vehicles it bought for N35.1m each.”

“We are demanding that the national assembly stop toying with the laws of the country in its own interest, We are asking that they stop playing politics with the budget, and scrap constituency projects because they are fraud. We demand that the national assembly make open its N150bn budget for all Nigerians to see.”

The protesters, armed with placards containing various inscriptions, vowed not to back down until their demands are met.
