'Bright and popular' student, 16, jumped off 100ft Asda car park roof after splitting with girlfriend

A "bright and popular" 16-year-old student hurled herself off a 100ft car park roof after breaking up with her girlfriend, an inquest heard.

Luhana Rocha plunged to her death from the top of an Asda multi-storey in Kent after splitting up with her girlfriend just hours before.

The pair were spotted having a heated discussion in a park earlier that day and Luhana had sought help from a church near the supermarket because she was "distressed".

The inquest heard Luhana had been seen crying in the lobby of the three-storey car park and was told to leave the area as it was closed.

But she returned at 5pm and mounted a boulder in the corner of the car park and was spotted by a man in a nearby flat who called police.

Margaret Bright, who monitored Asda's CCTV cameras, said Luhana was seen jumping up and down with her arms spread wide and shouting before she leapt from the roof.

Sgt Gary Stamp, who investigated the incident, said: "Officers attended and saw a female standing at the top of the railings.

"It has a two-tier fence and a step from the inside onto it.

"She stood there for about 10 minutes while we were receiving the call from the gentleman.

"By the time the officers got there, they got up the car park ramp about 50 to 60 metres away, as soon as she sees them, she jumps.
