Saraki defends Buhari over nomination of new Supreme Court judges

Senate President Bukola Saraki has defended the nomination of two new Supreme Court Judges by President Buhari on Tuesday.

Taking to his official twitter handle Tuesday evening, the Senate President said the nominations were in a bid to replace two serving Supreme Court judges who will be clocking 70 later this year.

The two judges to be replaced are Justice Galadima form North Central  Nigeria and the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed who hails from North Eastern Nigeria.

Buhari according to News 24  had on Tuesday wrote the Senate requesting the consideration and confirmation of the nominations of two judges as Justices of the Supreme Court.

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, read the letter conveying the request after the Senate returned from a closed-door session.

The nominated judges are Justice Sidi Bage, Nasarawa State, North Central; and Justice Paul Jauro, Taraba State, North East.

Many have interpreted the nomination of the two new judges as a replacement for the two Supreme Court judges currently being investigated for allegedly taking bribe.

The Department of State Services (DSS) had during the simultaneous operations on Friday night arrested Justices Sylvester Ngwuta and John Okoro of the Supreme Court
