Abia State is set to witness another milestone in its infrastructure and healthcare renewal drive as Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, will commission a series of critical projects across the state this week, ABN TV reports.
According to an official statement signed by the State Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, Governor Otti will lead the commissioning of 14 newly completed road projects and four fully equipped, functional Primary Health Care Centers (PHCs) across Abia South and Central Senatorial Zones. The ceremonies will take place between Tuesday, June 10 and Wednesday, June 11, 2025.
This marks the first phase of the Governor’s ambitious plan to commission and flag off a total of 55 projects across the state in the coming weeks, under the banner of the “New Abia” vision, which is focused on transparent governance, infrastructure renewal, enhanced healthcare delivery, and socioeconomic revitalization.
On Tuesday, June 10, Governor Otti will commission 12 road projects in Aba, the commercial hub of the state, under the supervision of the Greater Aba Development Authority and the Ministry of Works. These include Umuode Road, Bakassi Road, Asa Triangle Road, and major rehabilitations on Market Road, Tenant Road, Cameroun Road, Ehi Road, Clifford Road, and Afikpo Road, among others.
A rally will follow the commissioning events at St. Joseph’s College (CKC), Asa Triangle, Aba.
On Wednesday, June 11, attention will shift to Abia Central, where four Primary Health Care Centers in Isiala Ngwa South, Umuahia South, and Umuahia North LGAs will be commissioned as part of the Project Ekwueme PHC Program, which aims to establish functional health centers in all 184 wards of the state.
Additionally, two major road reconstruction projects will be inaugurated: the 8.3km Isi Eketa-Obikabia Road (linking Isiala Ngwa South to Isiala Ngwa North) and the 1.5km IBB Road (Duzie Way to Ahiaeke), both overseen by the Ministry of Works.
A rally will follow the events at Ibeku High School, Umuahia.
