What time is the US election result? When we will know whether Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump is the new President

Every four years, politics geeks gather round the TV and set themselves up for en epic all-nighter, eager to learn the outcome of the US Presidential election .

It’s a bit like the World Cup Final, but more fun.

But we understand not everyone can stay up all night on a Tuesday, much as they might want to.

What time do the polls close?

Here’s a map of the US with closing times for every state. Times are listed in Eastern Time - which is five hours behind UK time.
Polls close in the earliest states at midnight UK time.
