Liverpool Legends beat Borussia Dortmund in special Hong Kong fixture

Jose Enrique made a special return to the football pitch for Liverpool Legends on Saturday as they beat Borussia Dortmund 3-2 in a one-off fixture in Hong Kong.

The former Liverpool left-back, who played for the club between 2011-16, recently overcame a rare form of cancer after undergoing surgery to remove a brain tumour last May.

And on Saturday, the Spaniard marked his return to the football pitch by coming on as a substitute in the 23rd minute, receiving a fantastic reception from the locals in Hong Kong.

Enrique enjoyed a winning return thanks to Robbie Fowler's late penalty in front of a crowd of just under 21,000 at Hong Kong Stadium.

The local fans were treated to a five-goal thriller as the likes of Steve McManaman, Luis Garcia, Dirk Kuyt and Jason McAteer dusted off their boots for old times' sake.

Salif Diao opened the scoring for the Reds before netting a Xabi Alonso-esque strike from the halfway line after Mladen Petric had equalised.

Diao put Liverpool 2-1 ahead as he channelled his inner Alonso by cheekily beating Roman Weidenfeller directly from kick-off following Dortmund's equaliser.

Ewerthon slotted home Dortmund's second equaliser but it was player-manager Fowler who had the last laugh.

The former striker, who brought himself on, won the game for Liverpool's old boys thanks to a penalty that found the top-right corner with ease.
