Removal of fuel subsidy, inflation affecting healthcare delivery in Yobe – Commissioner

Removal of fuel subsidy, inflation and the increasing prices of medications influenced by foreign exchange have adversely affected healthcare in Yobe State.

This is according to the Commissioner for Health in the state, Dr Muhammad Lawan Gana.

Gana made the assertions at the validation of the Yobe State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency, YSCHMA, the operational guideline for stakeholders in Damaturu, the state capital.

Expressing concern over the high cost of medicines, the Commissioner explained that the state government through YSCHMA is working hard to ensure 200, 000 people registered under the agency are covered by the financial payment mechanism.

He said clients registered under the scheme in health facilities had begun to lament the cost of medications, raising the need for the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the YSCHMA and UNICEF to review the operational guidelines of the contributory scheme for it to thrive.
